Zotero error. item missing in library

I'm getting an error that Zotero experienced an error updating my doc. An item in this document is missing from my library. How can I find which item is missing? It is somehow locked and I can't do anything with Zotero and this document. It works fine on other docs. Thanks.
  • What's the exact error you're getting?
If it's the one I think it is, Zotero should highlight the item in question
  • yeah, it's saying Item 2 in the highlighted citation no longer exists in my database. Do I want to select an alternative. I say yes and I get the error I posted. I can't see any highlighted citation. BUt we are using yellow highlights in our collaborative process to mark things we need to come back to. WOuld it be a yellow highlight?
  • where would it highlight, in the list of references in Zotero or in the document?
  • No, it'd be grey shaded and the cursor should scroll to the location of the citation in the Zotero document (not the reference list)
  • doesn't seem to be that way. But thanks for pointing me to where to look. If I "unlink citations", can I go in and replace everything to clean it up? I would like to find the offending citation though.
  • unlink citations converts all citations into regular text, completely detached from Zotero -- I'm not sure why that'd help you clean things up?
  • yeah I was afraid of this. Not very good step forward. Well, thanks for your advice. I'll mess around more with it.
