Citing an ASTM Standard

Anyone know how to cite an ASTM standard?? (American Society for Testing Materials) <http://www.astm.org>; I can't even find a good reference. Most of the books that I have that reference them simply have a section that lists the ASTM standards used.

The standards typically have a title, AND a number (such as ASTM C33), and also a year. I'm not sure if there is an author, but if there were, both the author and the publisher are both "American Society for Testing Materials". There is a place of publication, but they are all the same so its usually not shown.

I think it should go something like this:

“Standard Test Method for Mechanical Fasteners in Plastic Lumber and Shapes,” ASTM D6117, American Society for Testing and Materials, 2005.

I have also seen the number before the title.

I tried putting this into "Report", but under IEEE format, the Report number (ASTM D6117) does not show up at all. Shouldn't it do that? Its not really a report, or a document...its a standard.

If anyone has any suggestions on where to look or how to proceed, please let me know

Well, ASTM's own document can be seen at:
    http://www.astm.org/COMMIT/Blue_Book.pdf
    See section G22

I like IEEE's advice better; see:
