Firefox plugin acts like it is adding to library but doesn't show up in Zotero Desktop

I've run into an issue with the Zotero Firefox plugin on my Mac on certain sites (e.g., http://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.1177/0018720817723428). I click the paper add icon and a small dialog pops up in the bottom right of the browser; however, when I go to the Zotero Desktop client and sync on that same computer, the recently added citation isn't there. Not sure what to try next!
