MetaTag for several language and synonym

Hi,
I'm a french user (new user), and work and tag in french and/or english.
I want to share librairies with other users.

One of us can use the tag "aircraft", and an other "avion" (french translation), but also "plane", "aeronef", or chinese words ...

If we need to use a same language for all our tags (english), it's restrictive for people who don't speak english
if not, it's harder to search and filter, because I need to search the name of the tag in different languages, and different synonyms.

Is possible to define a table of equivalent tags, as a synonym dictionnary, to, when I search the tag "aircraft", zotero search also "avion" (french translation)?
It can be see as a "metatag" with different translation and/or synonym: "aircraft, plane, airplane, avion, aeronef, ...." could be a MetaTag

Am I clear?

Best
  • Yes, you are clear, but this functionality is not available in the Zotero. Sorry.
  • thanks,
I'll see later if it's really necessary to find an alternative to so something near, or if it is posible to developp a specific plugin (I'm computer programmer)

There is an open-access multi-lingual thesaurus program, TemaTres, that we adapted to do what you hope to do. This would need written to be a thesaurus plug-in for Zotero but we were able to get this to work with our MySQL-based database. If you are familiar with programming you may be able to do this yourself. My web development team was able to do this integration work in 15 hours. There are many examples on the TemaTres website that could give you ideas for coding the implementation the thesaurus engine as a Zotero plug-in. The one caveat is that it uses PHP and a web-server so it may not translate to a database on a local machine.

Support is primarily in the Portuguese language but there is an active support community. TemaTres is widely used as the thesaurus for bibliographic databases.

To search using the thesaurus (set up as a 'synonym ring') use the textword+synonym function. We are working on finalizing a hierarchical search system but that function is not yet fully available.
