Style Request: Review of International Studies

Hi,
is there a style available that matches the "Review of International Studies" guidelines? Their style sheet can be found here: https://www.cambridge.org/core/services/aop-file-manager/file/57753670dd5679630ae895f8

I couldn't find anything in the Zotero Style Repository.

Thanks for your help!

  • Thanks for the reply, bwiernik.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to find anything that was a match to the extent that it would safe me time from editing all references manually.
I also invested some time in trying to edit an existing style, but wasn't very successful.

So perhaps someone could help creating the style?

    Here the necessary info:

  • Hi.
Just did a search for you with the visual search by example. The Urban Studies style seems quite a good base to use as a template.
Can you tell me what the in-text citation should look like?
  • Hi,

First attempt at this. Would be great if you could test this out for yourself and feedback so we can make further changes.
the documentation by the journal is rather inconsistent actually. they seem like they don't know what they want themselves.

  • @damnation -- we'd be happy to take this directly as a pull request for CSL (https://github.com/citation-style-language/styles/blob/master/CONTRIBUTING.md ) where we can do code review. You can then also just provide the raw link to the user to install while the code is under review, which is easier than copy&pasting this to a text editor and creating a .csl file.
  • Alternatively, it's handier to use a code-sharing service like GitHub's Gists (https://gist.github.com/) to quickly share style code, instead of embedding entire CSL styles in forum posts.
  • Hi,

has this style (Review of International Studies) be created in the meanwhile? It's not in the style repository.

    Thanks,
    Nicole
  • no, sorry.
@damnation -- are you interested to take this one back up?
  • Great news, thanks @adamsmith and @damnation ! Is there any chance to know roughly when it will be available?
  • typically soon. I'd expect a first version to be available within days, a version on the repository within a week.
  • I am using the most simple option, the zotero plug in for word, and don't really know what to do with this - sorry. I'd be happy to learn it, though, if it's not complicated. Many thanks in advance!
  • Download the csl style from the link above. Add it to Zotero styles and test functionality in the Word.
  • (That's right-click --> save link as for the link above and then a simple double-click should be enough to install. But you can also just wait until we accept it and it's available regularly if you're not in a big rush)
  • Great, that works excellent, many thanks! The only thing I see that'd need fixing is that the Review style includes for the second mention only the author's surname and date of publication. Is that somethig that can be done?
  • Yo instale ese nuevo CSL Style, y aquí les tengo un ejemplo de como quedaría la cita (comparandose con el tradicional APA):

  • Great, @adamsmith , thanks! One minor detail to fix: on the second mention you now get (author)_ _(year) with two spaces instead of one.
  • Many thanks @damnation, much appreciated!
  • Hello!

Thanks very much, @damnation and @adamsmith for your help in coding this reference style, it is very useful!

One small comment as I am using it right now: there seems to still be the two spaces before and after the date for the second mention, while there should be only one.

It appears like this: Bull (1988) p. 195.
While it should appear like this: Bull (1988), p. 195

Any possibility to fix this minor issue on your end?

    Many thanks!

    Christelle
  • Yes, you are right, the error is on line 109 of the CSL file, where is the double space. There should be ", "
I see some other errors in the style:
    - use name of author instead of "ibid." for subsequent citation
    - use "pp." for locating one page (for example 2006 pp. 1)
    - use "pp." for locating different types of locators (chapters, column, ...)

@damnation have you a free time to correct this your style?
  • Yeah. I'll look into it :)

Can you try this new one? https://www.zotero.org/styles?q=review-of-international-studies

(Caveat: just started a new job, little brain power and not much time.)
