Word 10 crashes when trying to insert citations

The following problem description refers to Report ID 1508319867. I recently started using a new laptop with Windows 10, including the Office Package. The first days working on files that I had created on my old laptop using an older word version with Zotero was fine. But then Windows began to crash repeatledly whenver I tried to insert a new citation. I tried all steps described here:

after copy-pasting the whole text (without the bibliography) into a new file and using a new reference style Zotero first worked fine and I thought I had solved the problem. But now it reoccured and I don't no why since I did not copy any textpassages with citations from other (old) files or the like. Any thoughts?

Any help would be most welcome as I am getting desperate...

when you say "Windows began to crash" -- what exactly happened?

well, the screen went white while I had the Zotero citation window open and all open windows files were no longer awailable. Word 10 then immideatly restarted and asked me to open the "restored" files. When I trie to insert the same citation again I usually receive a failure message from Zotero, informing me: "The remote procedure call failed. [getNoteIndex:field.cpp]"]

I just tried and now it sometimes seem to work before crashing again unexpectatly. Neither convenient, nor reliant...

OK, so that sounds like Word crashes, not Windows. Not much better, but important difference. And this is using Zotero 4 or 5?

Yes, word crashes, not Windows. Sorry for misunderstanding. And I am using Zotero 5.0.17

Whenever I cite any references in Zotero, Word crashes and stops performing. Very annoying.

@thomasho Please start a new thread and provide information about exactly what you are doing and what happens. What exactly does "crashes and stops performing" mean? What versions of Word and Zotero are you using?

@adamsmith: I have followed the instruction under the link posted by you. So far it works fine. Will keep you posted if Word stops crashing now.

And I am using Word 2016 (very new laptop provided by university with pre-installed software...)
