dontUpdate":true in the field

Hi,

I noticed that dontUpdate":true in the field for many of my reference in a doc.

How could I make all these update-able again?

Thanks

Philipp
  • Is this in the bibliography or an in-text citation?

For the bibliography, click the Edit Bibliography button, then click "Revert All".

For a citation, place the cursor in the citation field and click "Edit Citation". A dialog box should pop up saying "You have modified this citation since Zotero generated it. Editing will clear your modifications. Do you want to continue?" Click "Ok". Do this for each reference.

What probably happened is that at some point you (or a collaborator working with this document) got a large number of these notices and clicked "Cancel" rather than "OK" on each. This might happen if someone had entered extra notes or page numbers to a Zotero citation manually, rather than using the Zotero page numbers/prefix/suffix fields. Some versions of Word also have issues with Zotero citations and Track Changes. What version of Word are you using?
  • hi bwiernik,

It is in the in a citation and your suggestion works!

Is there a way to change all these in one go? as there is over 200 citations that I need to change
  • It is word 2013
  • Try this. Delete the dontUpdate":true from the field codes of one citation, and see if it resumes correct updating after a change in the Zotero data (change something like the year just to test). If that works, then select all your text, type Alt+F9 to show all field codes, then use Replace All to delete dontUpdate":true from all citations at once.

If it doesn't work, then unfortunately, you'll have to do it one at a time.

Changing the citation style to something else and back will likely clear the pref for all citations
  • Good to know.
