Workflow for taking notes while resaearching

Is there a recomended series of steps for taking notes, while reading a paper. I find myself performing a lot of mouse clicks to; copy text, open Zotero from background, select "Note", select new attached note, paste text jnto note, annotate, as with page number, save, and finally, switch back to the document. Perhaps there're a hot-key or two that would streamline the proces? I can almost imagine spending a few weeks reading and takjng notes, witk Zotero. Then, exporting those notes into a document and arrainging them into an outline. I just can't work out an end to end work flow. Regards, mtcstle
