Importing incorrectly

When a source is being imported into word, it is importing with the title of the article rather than citing it appropriately. This problem happens when I save an article too - it will import by the name I give it rather than using the appropriate citation. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I do not understand you. What, from, where and how you import?
  • I'm guessing you're trying to cite a PDF directly, rather than a Zotero item.

Familiarize yourself with how to import into Zotero: https://www.zotero.org/support/getting_stuff_into_your_library
  • I was originally importing a PDF into a word document. However, I actually acquired a reference directly through Zotero and it still imported the title of the journal article rather than the actual citation information into Word. I have watched the tutorials, but it is still not working correctly. I then uninstalled and reinstalled the program, and it is doing the same thing (with PDF's and articles imported directly into Zotero). Please let me know if this is not clear, or if you need additional information.
  • Could we get an example citation and the citation style you're using?
  • I am using APA style (just for testing this out).

Here is an example of what happens when I import a saved PDF:

(“Buckmaster and Lew 2011 Rapamycin suppresses mossy fiber sprouting but not seizure frequency in a mouse model of TLE.pdf,” n.d.)

Here is what happens when I imported an article directly into Zotero and it is not saved as a PDF.

(“Reduced densities of parvalbumin- and somatostatin-expressing interneurons in experimental cortical dysplasia and heterotopia in early postnatal development- ClinicalKey,” n.d.)

I was using my laptop yesterday and I used a desktop today, and the exact same issue is happening. I installed Zotero and imported my library on the desktop (work computer) and it has not made a difference.
  • Import e.g. from here:
    https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/28388275
to see how this is supposed to look
  • I did get that to work when importing directly from pubmed. Is it possible to import from PDF and not have it import the title given into the word document? I have imported dozens of PDFs into Zotero now with the titles of the articles. I can go get them directly from pubmed if needed, but I was hoping to be able to save myself some time. Thank you for your continued help!

though don't use this as your default. The quality of data import is going to be better going through pubmed, pubmed central, or the journal publisher.
