Style Request: [Taylor & Francis - Applied Spectroscopy Reviews]

edited March 29, 2017
Hello,

Could it be possible to add a csl style for Applied Spectroscopy Reviews published by Taylor & Francis? It is a different journal than Applied Spectroscopy published by SAGE.

Here are some examples:
in-text citation: (1-2)

1. Campbell, J.L. and Pedersen, O.K. (2007) The varieties of capitalism and hybrid success. Comparative Political Studies, 40(3): 307–332.

2. Mares, I. (2001) Firms and the welfare state: When, why, and how does social policy matter to employers? In Varieties of capitalism. The institutional foundations of comparative advantage, Hall, P.A., and Soskice, D., Eds. Oxford University Press: New York, NY, USA, pp. 184–213.

  • Hi,

    Must be Taylor and Francis week or something. Can you check this journal doesn't follow any of the T&F styles first? https://www.zotero.org/styles?q=taylor
  • Hi damnation,
    I had already checked but unfortunately they are not correct. The closest is Taylor & Francis - Numeric Q but still different.
  • @damnation
    Many thanks.

    I just found a few forgotten:
    - for books: a space between title and edition
    - for conferences: symposium title
    - for presentations: symposium title, place and date
    - for rapport: rapport number
    - for thesis: kind, university and place
    - for manuscripts: kind, place and link
    - for internet pages and blogs: title, remove "(no date)" if date is not available
    - for forum posts: link
    Yes, I have all of that in my bibliography ;-)

    Moreover, I have an article where the journal name is "rn (A+B)" and it is transformed into "rn B"

    Thanks again for your help.
    Have a nice week-end.
  • CSL currently doesn't support structured conference presentations (e.g., talks in symposia), so that part can't be added to Presentation or Conference Paper.
  • Moreover, I have an article where the journal name is "rn (A+B)" and it is transformed into "rn B"
    unfortunately not much we can do about that one, sorry. The abbreviations are pretty hardcoded into Zotero.

    (As for Symposium -- I assume you mean "meeting name" here? Otherwise, what bwiernik says.)

    Book:
    Comes out like this for me "Dunnett, N., and Kingsbury, N. (2008) Planting green roofs and living walls. 2nd ed. Timber Press: Portland, OR."

    Made a few changes. See the file here https://github.com/damnation333/styles/blob/382686b7df78ced1cdfb56adc4d8faac49d8cf32/applied-spectroscopy-reviews.csl (right click and save as...)

    I just did this quickly and blind without testing as I don't have all these items in my libary.
    If you find mistakes, please post as follows:
    Book:
    Status quo: blablabla
    Wanted: thisthisthis

    That way it's easier for me to do.

    With rapport you mean report?
  • @bwiernik
    Ok, that's noted

    @adamsmith
    Yes, it is probably meeting name. My interface is in French so I don't have the English fields.

    @damnation
    My mistake, it was indeed report and not rapport.

    I downloaded it directly on github without right clicking, but I got the error "not a valid CSL 1.0.1 style". Nevertheless, it installed.

    Book:
    Status: Levitt, M. H. (2008) Spin Dynamics: Basics of Nuclear Magnetic ResonanceSecond edition. Wiley-Blackwell.
    Wanted: Levitt, M. H. (2008) Spin Dynamics: Basics of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Second edition. Wiley-Blackwell.

    I will check later in details: I need to go back home.
    Sincerely,
    Guillaume
  • Dear @damnation ,
    Sorry for the delay and thank you for your help.

    I found a very complete document for Taylor & Francis bibliography style: http://www.tandf.co.uk/journals/authors/style/reference/tf_APA.pdf

    Here are some remaining points to enhance.

  • Hi,

    the link is for the T&F APA style which is just normal APA. We do have that on the repository (https://www.zotero.org/styles?q=id:taylor-and-francis-american-psychological-association).

    No the style for ASR is different, hence we made an independent style for this, remember?

    Presentation (speech): should be fixed now.
    web, blog and forum: should be fixed now.
    Thesis: should be fixed now.
    Manuscript: should be fixed now.
    Report: should be fixed now.

    Try this one now: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/damnation333/styles/b8baf1c8828a3333da870660da72c9a7b088659e/applied-spectroscopy-reviews.csl (right click and save)

    This time don't disappear in the middle of everything. ;)
  • Hello,
    Many thanks, that's a wonderful job.
    All seems fine except proceeding. If you can't add the meeting name, it doesn't matter, but if you could do the other modifications, it would be perfect. In particular, a comma is missing after the proceeding book.
    Cheers
  • Almost that ;-)
    Status: Laurent, G., Woelffel, W., Barret-Vivin, V., Gouillart, E., and Bonhomme, C. (2016) Performance du SVD pour débruiter les spectres RMN et Raman. In hal-01277387, c2i-2016 : 7ème Colloque Interdisciplinaire en Instrumentation, Saint-Nazaire, France, 20 January 2016.

    Comment : without in, with meeting name in italic, with multiple days and without year at the end.

    Cheers
  • Wait -- you have "In" above -- are you sure you don't want that? It makes a lot of sense to me to include. (Zotero can't handle date ranges, so that won't work no matter the style).
  • @adamsmith
    Yes, on journal page, "in" is only present for books and chapters, but not for conferences. Especially, their conference example is a proceeding:

    Shur, M. (2005) Terahertz technology: Devices and applications. Proceedings of ESSCIRC, Solid-State Circuits Conference, Grenoble, France, September 12–16.

    Thanks
  • I've removed the "In", but you had that in your examples in this thread, hence it wasn't taken out.

    New style is on GitHub. Let's see if you find it ;)
  • You're right, my mistake. That's not so easy to don't do a mistake for people that are not used to create styles.

    Here is the link: https://github.com/damnation333/styles/raw/9047e7ea1b4bd13f240f6fd61a2d9f032e65e139/applied-spectroscopy-reviews.csl

    Arg! Here is what I get
    Laurent, G., Woelffel, W., Barret-Vivin, V., Gouillart, E., and Bonhomme, C. (2016) Performance du SVD pour débruiter les spectres RMN et Raman. hal-01277387, , c2i-2016 : 7ème Colloque Interdisciplinaire en Instrumentation, Saint-Nazaire, France, 20 January 2016.

    I would suggest
    <else-if type="paper-conference">
    <text variable="title" prefix=" " suffix=". "/>
    <text variable="container-title" font-style="italic" suffix=", "/>
    <text variable="event" font-style="italic" suffix=", "/>
    <group delimiter=", " prefix=" " suffix=".">
    <text macro="publisher"/>
    <date variable="issued" form="text"/>
    </group>
    </else-if>
  • in what fields are the two numbers in zotero?
  • Dear @damnation

    hal-01277387 is in proceeding book and c2i-2016 : 7ème Colloque Interdisciplinaire en Instrumentation is in meeting name.

    I have submitted a pull request on github with additional changes in report part.

    Thank you all for your help
  • (haven't followed the tickets, but let's do this with delimiters, not with suffixes. The code above is quite fragile)
  • @adamsmith
    Your comment is quite surprising: I have only done small changes and line moves to damnation's file.
    But any improvement is good to take. :-)
