Zotero Standalone 4.0.29.15 problem swapping citations (Mac)

Hello,

When I use the citation function from the black ribbon in Word, start to enter a word then realised I forgot the name of author and look it up on internet, then come back to Word the Zotero bar has disappeared and an empty 'citation' zone is in my footnote.

I delete that empty zone and when I try again to enter a citation, Zotero then gives me an error. My footnote still appears empty BUT the following footnote's citation has been swapped for the one I just in putted.

The error:
Zotero experienced an error updating your document.
Document modified during update @[setCode:field.m:585]

I thought that it was worth mentioning as other writers such as myself might be in trouble if they don't notice their footnote has changed.

Strangely enough pressing Ctrl-Z did not solve the problem for me - the footnote did not return to previous citation.

Sometimes I got a follow up error a second time, same text.

I use a Mac, my word is version 14.6.7.

Thank you
Snowva
  • First of all, thanks for providing steps to reproduce the issue, we'll look into fixing it.

Secondly, you might want to try pressing Ctrl-Z/Cmd-Z multiple times (if you still have the document open). At the moment Zotero insertions into documents actually take multiple "Word steps", so you have to Cmd-Z multiple times. This is also something that we'll hopefully address soon.

Otherwise, your best bet is to work from a back-up document. If you don't have one, you should look into the debugging broken documents section in our support pages. In this particular case switching to a citation style that does not use footnotes might help. Before attempting any of this, make sure you have a back-up of the current broken document (and make back-ups once you fix it!)
  • Thank you! I was more concerned about other people that might not have seen the issue with the next footnote. I am usually very cautious with multiplying back ups.
