Can't pull citation and/or pdf files from JSTOR on Windows 10 64 bit
Hello!
As in the title, I'm having trouble with Zotero working with JSTOR on Windows 10 64 bit (running Release Preview).
In Firefox (tried both 32-bit and 64-bit versions), regardless of whether I use the Zotero add-on alone or as a connector to Zotero Standalone, I can't get pdf files saved. Yes, I accept terms and conditions first every time. I am only able to save citation data and saving pdfs fails, even when I click save in the window in which I have the pdf open. I tried the Zotero 5 beta and it's actually having even more problems than the old Zotero. On article page it saves the article as a webpage (it doesn't recognise it's an article). On pdf view (via the Firefox built-in pdf viewer) it tries to save the pdf without metadata and fails.
I got Google Chrome connector to work with JSTOR ONCE. It worked for a day and then stopped (since then I reinstalled Zotero Standalone and Chrome connector multiple times, but it didn't help). And now when I try to save anything it shows it is saving, but it never does - and the box in lower right corner that says it is saving stays there until I refresh the page (it only says to which folder it is saving, the article data never appears there).
I used Zotero as a Firefox add-on on Windows 10 32-bit Release Preview on the same laptop and it worked like a charm. I have it installed on Vista 32-bit on the same machine and it works without issues.
I really am running out of ideas. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I don't know if anyone has tested Zotero with the W10 Release Previews, but running it W10 64-bit in general certainly isn't an issue.
The funny thing is that there were really no issues on parallel Windows 10 32-bit Release Preview. I switched last Friday because I needed to install some software that is only 64-bit.
Edit: and about Windows. It's Windows 10 Home 64-bit version 10.0.14393, compilation 14393
Edit 2: now that Google Chrome updated to version 56.0.2924.87 (64-bit) it is behaving in the same way as Firefox, that is after I accept JSTOR's terms and conditions it pulls only citation data, regardless of whether I am on article page or on the pdf in Chrome's built-in pdf viewer.
Edit 3: I just noticed you wanted me to provide "a couple of URLs exactly as you see it". What do you mean by this? Do you want me to upload screenshots, saved webpages or something else?
Please copy the exact URL as displayed in your browser address field. The url may contain a lot of characters that do not seem to be useful, but it is exactly those characters that are needed so that your problem may be diagnosed.
So here are the URLs from Firefox with Zotero AND FoxyProxy.
1) Search results:
http://www.jstor.org/action/doBasicSearch?Query=hegel+identity&prq=hegel&fc=off&wc=on&hp=25&so=rel&acc=on
2) single article page:
http://www.jstor.org/stable/2254050?Search=yes&resultItemClick=true&searchText=hegel&searchText=identity&searchUri=/action/doBasicSearch?acc=on&Query=hegel+identity&so=rel&prq=hegel&wc=on&=&=&=&=&=&=&fc=off&hp=25&seq=1#page_scan_tab_contents
3) pdf built-in viewer:
http://www.jstor.org/stable/pdf/2254050.pdf
As I said earlier, Zotero for Firefox with FoxyProxy always fails to download pdf attachments, but saves citation data fine.
The results for Firefox with Zotero WITHOUT FoxyProxy or any other proxy.
1) http://www.jstor.org/action/doBasicSearch?Query=hegel+identity&acc=off&wc=on&fc=off&group=none
2) http://www.jstor.org/stable/2254050?Search=yes&resultItemClick=true&searchText=hegel&searchText=identity&searchUri=/action/doBasicSearch?wc=on&acc=off&=&=&=&=&Query=hegel+identity&fc=off&group=none&seq=1#page_scan_tab_contents
The results for Firefox with proxy set up in Firefox itself:
1) http://www.jstor.org/action/doBasicSearch?Query=hegel+identity&acc=on&wc=on&fc=off&group=none
2) http://www.jstor.org/stable/2254050?Search=yes&resultItemClick=true&searchText=hegel&searchText=identity&searchUri=/action/doBasicSearch?wc=on&Query=hegel+identity&group=none&acc=on&fc=off&=&=&=&=&seq=1#page_scan_tab_contents
3) http://www.jstor.org/stable/pdf/2254050.pdf
When I set Firefox this way, Zotero failed to save anything at all - citation data OR pdf...
Google Chrome with FoxyProxy:
1) http://www.jstor.org/action/doBasicSearch?Query=hegel+identity&acc=on&wc=on&fc=off&group=none
2) http://www.jstor.org/stable/2254050?Search=yes&resultItemClick=true&searchText=hegel&searchText=identity&searchUri=/action/doBasicSearch?amp=&=&=&=&Query=hegel+identity&group=none&fc=off&wc=on&acc=on&seq=1#fndtn-page_scan_tab_contents
3) http://www.jstor.org/stable/pdf/2254050.pdf
Google Chrome with proxy set globally for the whole Windows 10...
1) http://www.jstor.org/action/doBasicSearch?Query=hegel+identity&acc=on&wc=on&fc=off&group=none
2) http://www.jstor.org/stable/2254050?Search=yes&resultItemClick=true&searchText=hegel&searchText=identity&searchUri=/action/doBasicSearch?amp=&=&=&=&group=none&fc=off&acc=on&Query=hegel+identity&wc=on
3) http://www.jstor.org/stable/pdf/2254050.pdf
After I set Google Chrome this way it actually stopped detecting Zotero Standalone and started nagging me to log in to my Zotero account to save to it instead. After I did login it still failed to save anything anywhere. Restoring translators in Standalone didn't help.
So here are all the URLs I can think of. For some reason browsing JSTOR without FoxyProxy but with proxy settings for the whole web browser makes Zotero fail to save anything at all in my case...
I hope that helps.
Do you need the proxy to connect to the internet or just to authenticate? Any more details on the proxy you can provide?
@dstillman do you have an idea here?
I'm sorry for causing troubles, but I didn't make anything up. :(
Edit: I need the proxy to gain access to the full text articles in those online databases. Apart from JSTOR databases like Ebscohost seem to work fine.
I am having the same issue with downloading JSTOR full-text attachments. I am working in Window 7, Chrome, and Zotero standalone. The citation is downloaded properly, and while there is a brief icon showing an effort to download the pdf attachment, it quickly fails. Here is an example of a failed path: http://www.jstor.org.libproxy.uwyo.edu/stable/43630697?seq=1#page_scan_tab_contents. This used to work smoothly on this machine with this setup, so whatever is going wrong appears to be a recent problem. Please let me know if you can suggest a fix.
Many thanks,
Tim P.
The first things to check are whether you have manually downloaded one PDF to agree to JSTOR's terms and conditions and if you have somehow stringent privacy settings (in particular with respect to cookies) set in Chrome.
