I just did that but it did not work, I reinstalled everything but it still did not work. This is becoming a frustrating system to use as it seems to crash regularly!
Can you enable it in the add-in section? That'd be the way to go. If you can't that would suggest a Word security setting of some type. Is this your computer or an institutional/corporate one?
The first thing to check would be if Zotero is listed under "Word Add-ins" in the Word developer tab (this is assuming Word 2010+) and if so if it's checked. If not, you'd want to check your Word Startup folder and see if Zotero.dotm is in there https://www.zotero.org/support/windows_word_plugin_manual_installation_instructions#locating_your_word_startup_folder
It is not listed in the advanced section.
