Zotero fails to introduce citation for large document (dissertation - aprox 60 000 words)

I have been experiencing long delays, or even fails in implementing the citation in the dissertation I'm working on at this moment. Does anybody experienced this type of problem? Any suggestions?

    In very long documents, Zotero can slow down. These steps can help:
    - Switch to an author-date style that doesn't change for first and subsequent citations (e.g., Annual Reviews)
    - Delete the bibliography
    - Split the document into chapters and combine when done
    (Obviously you would change the style and insert the bibliography once you are done writing).

    You could also insert new references into a blank document and cut and paste them into your dissertation.
