Zotero forums update
Really glad to see the forum software update, but could the separate forum categories be restored? These made it much easier for me to organize answering questions.
This is an old discussion that has not been active in a long time. Before commenting here, you should strongly consider starting a new discussion instead. If you think the content of this discussion is still relevant, you can link to it from your new discussion.
The mobile version of the forum (which is a blessing) isn't themed at all, which doesn't really hurt, but is a bit weird to suddenly be on an all blue site without any sign of Zotero. (That's on Chrome for Android)

It'd also be nice to allow for including images -- I don't know how often I've written the "post to a free image hosting" site.
(fcheslack -- again, thanks for the new forum and none of this is meant as criticism, it'd just seem like a good time to fine-tune.
I forget the details off the top of my head, but we tested the advanced editor and had some problems with it.
I want to get uploads working, but it's complicated by our server setup so that is down the list a bit.
The current page number of a thread was underlined (in order to distinguish it from the other pages) in the previous version, could that be restored?
Edit: at the moment, the page numbers are not active at the top; only those at the bottom are clickable.
Small glitch: when clicking the gear icon (on this forum), the subscribe/unsubscribe button is always phrased "Unsubscribe"…
Also: When I enter the zotero website I am already logged in, and when I go to this forum within the website I am logged out. At least this is what the headline of web page says.
And seeming being logged out I can post !?
?!?
We tried to get as close to the old notification options as possible, but there are a lot of differences between Vanilla versions (and the old notifications were from a plugin).
Of course I forgot to respond to the question that started the thread.
The change was intentional. We didn't think they provided enough value to keep them around. People seem to get flustered trying to figure out where to post, and post in multiple categories, or in existing threads so they don't need to start their own. I assume on zotero.org you appear logged in though? And logging out and back in makes you appear logged in on both zotero.org and forums.zotero.org?
Thought I had ironed those issues out, but perhaps not.
As I already noted on zotero-dev, I'm curious whether the new version allows for search-by-author at https://forums.zotero.org/search. It used to be that prefixing a search term by "username:" did the trick, but this no longer works.
In addition, it would be nice if the comment timestamp could be placed next to the username instead of below it (to save vertical space), and maybe changed to a less prominent color (it used to be grey, I think: http://cdn-thumbshot.pearltrees.com/0d/32/0d32622d7b05a5fd88bed04e62f68634-b52square.jpg)
The line spacing also appears a bit much. A line-height of 1.3 instead of 1.7 looks much better, I think.
Finally, can the RSS feed be renamed from "Recent Comments - Zotero Forums" to just "Zotero Forums"? It currently shows up as "Recent Comments ..." in my Feedly feed list.
code
and tags, but explaining how to use gist.github.com for posting large code blocks, a link to the forum etiquette (https://www.zotero.org/support/forum_guidelines), and when it is or isn't okay to post directly to GitHub would be good as well. Could be a link in the side bar, or a sticky post.(right now, I was trying to figure out whether I could fix the rendering in the opening post at https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/62288/citeproc-js-bug)
