Been getting a "Error connecting to server. Check your internet connection" error message when syncing with Zotero server. This has happened in different machines while enjoying perfect internet connection with other apps.
  • This is almost always due to either
    - network configuration, specifically a proxy that invalidates SSL connections
    - software that intercepts SSL connections, which in most cases is security software but can also be a virus

  • This message actually isn't usually about the security certificate — that's usually a different error. This one is usually due to incorrect proxy settings or security software, so disable your system proxy settings (if you're not using a proxy) or correct them (if you are), and if that doesn't work try temporarily disabling security software.
