What is meaning of some entry titles in Standalone app being "greyed"

Something like a third of the entries in my library (2500 or so) are greyed. The text is just lighter. They aren't "greyed out" with the implication that I can't use them, but just greyed. Sometimes attachment files are greyed within a black entry. I can't tell what the functionality of this is. Thanks for any insights...I'm still learning after transitioning away from years of Endnote and then Sente...

    typically that'd be the effect of searches: if you search for something and the hit is only the attachment, say, you'll still see the parent item, but it'll be grey, while the actual search hit is black. Does that square with what you're seeing?
