bibliography/references with DOIs
Please forgive the newb if this has already been addressed. I'm using Zotero 4.0.28 plug-in with MSWord for Mac 15.11.2. I did not have this problem with the MSWord for Mac 2011 version. When I try to auto-create a reference list (bibliography) in APA, it comes in like this (ignore the lack of hanging indent and italics, etc):
Hommes, M., Khan, A., Gerber, C., Kipnis, H., & Hamm, K. (2014). Out of the shadows and into the banks: Financing very small and informal enterprises. Enterprise Development & Microfinance, 25(3), 211–225. http://doi.org/10.3362/1755-1986.2014.020
Note that the doi is shown as http://doi.org/10.3362/1755-1986.2014.020; I'm being told that it should be:
doi:10.3362/1755-1986.2014.020 (which is how it used to show up in the previous version)
or
http://dx.doi.org/10.3362/1755-1986.2014.020
So when I go in to manually edit the bibliography, in the editor, it does this:
Hommes, M., Khan, A., Gerber, C., Kipnis, H., & Hamm, K. (2014). Out of the shadows and into the banks: Financing very small and informal enterprises. {\i{}Enterprise Development & Microfinance}, {\i{}25}(3), 211–225. http://doi.org/10.3362/1755-1986.2014.020
So now notice that where things should be italicized, it inserts characters {\i{} and } as if to "tag" them as being italicized, but it ends up showing up in the reference list with those characters. So when I go in just to fix the DOI, then I also have to remove all those characters and re-format items that need to be italicized. And, of course, now that I've manually over-ridden the citation, it will no longer update if the entry gets updated.
So it just seems like a) there should be a way for me to "tell" Zotero to use the right DOI format such that I don't have to even get into the editor to begin with. Like I said, this wasn't ever a problem before, and it just used the standard doi: convention without the http:/doi.org/ convention.
Am I the only one with this issue? Is there a setting I've missed? Any help will be appreciated.
TIA

Not sure if I've seen the APA's official statement on it, but using the preferred server (doi.org rather than dx.doi.org) would seem to be consistent with the spirit of their guidelines.
If you really do need to edit something manually (though see the comments above for your specific issue), just do it at the end in a copy of the document with field codes removed.
