error opening file

Suddenly I can't open attached files. Instead of opening the pdf, it shows in the firefox tab: zotero://attachment/13686
If select an attachment, and click show file, it still shows the right location.
What can be wrong?

PS It worked perfectly before
  • It's supposed to show a zotero://attachment URL. What's the actual problem you're seeing?
  • Before, it opened the pdf in my pdf-reader (foxit), and not changing anything in the active firefox tab. But now, it doesn't open the pdf, instead it gives the above mentioned sentence in the active firefox tab and the tab is labelled (JPG-bild) (Swedish XP version).
  • Does this happen with all attachment files, or only some? When you click Show File and double-click the file, does it open correctly in your PDF reader, and is it definitely a PDF?

For some reason Firefox seems to think you have a JPEG file rather than a PDF. Do you get the same result with other PDF files? Do you get the same result (minus the zotero://attachment line) if you drag the file directly into Firefox? If so, and the file is actually a PDF, you might want to try disabling your other Firefox extensions and plugins to see if the problem still occurs.
  • Solved! Thanks Dan, it indeed was firefox who didn't recognize a pdf file anymore. After disabling a few plugins it works again.
  • I'm totally lost. When I log on, I get this error message: "The Zotero database 'zotero.sqlite' appears to have become corrupted. Your data was restored from the last automatic backup made on Monday, December 22, 2008 at 6:25:48 PM. The damaged file was saved in your Zotero directory."

Well, I can't find the Zotero directory. I don't know how to recover this. I just click "Restart Later" and get Firefox up each time. Can someone tell me what the deal is here? Thnx.
  • @Tonton Macoute: You can find some information on where the Firefox profiles directory (where the Zotero folder is located) here:

    Hope this helps.
