Zotero workflow: automatically link new files ?
Hello all,
I started recently to use Zotero to manage my references, all of them linking to papers in PDFs files on my HD.
I want to be able to browse my library with a file manager, too, so instead of adding the files and thus getting them copied to the .zotero/xy/storage folder, I *link* them.
Usually I obtain files from websites like sciencedirect, sometimes papers are shared by email, dropbox etc. For my needs I find the firefox addon a bit cumbersome to use. I move the file to an "articles" folder, then create a link in Zotero, retrieve metadata, create the ref, let Z rename the file.
That way, I guess, I only use a milli fraction of what Zotero can do.
Is there a way to automate this process? Or maybe to use Z in a different manner, that would still allow me to have my files stored outside of the cryptic Z storage-folder?
Oh, and is there a way of detecting that a file was renamed or moved?
(...or just use JabRef...)
I used Mendeley before, but quit for a number of reasons. Maybe that conditioned me too much..
Well, any help and recommendation is appreciated! :)
Thanks.
Cheers
David

For files zotfile discovers in its watched folder: Is it possible to configure zotfile, so that it does not add the file to the selected item but to create a new entry? (To make it perfect..)
