Synchronizing in different computers

Hi,

I use Zotero regularly at home and work. I was wondering whether it is possible to
synchronize the items in both these computers? Is something similar to Foxmarks
[www.foxmarks.com] possible for Zotero?

Cheers,
Shanki
  • Sync will be available in v. 1.5, which is in public beta. Search for more info.
  • I used zotero at one computer, exported the library as a ris file and then imported again at a second computer. When I started to work at the text and iserted more citations, Zotero sent a warning that the references no longer exist and deleted the citations that previously existed in the text.

Until the online sychronization become available from a stable zotero dstribuition, is there a work around from losing the citatons?

    In such an example?
  • Import/export does not preserve item ids. Move your entirely zotero data directory (either by copying it between machines or by keeping it on an external or network drive that you can use anywhere).
  • Check out Dan's comment in this thread: http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/3649/errors-were-found-in-the-zotero-database/
Also note that import/export isn't the recommended way to use the same library on multiple computers. It's better to just copy the data directory to the other computer. (You can also store the data directory on a USB drive and set a custom location in the Advanced pane of the Zotero prefs or use Zotero with Firefox Portable.) The upcoming server sync support will make it much easier to use the same library on multiple computers.
