PEP-Web

I cannot find a translator for PEP-Web. In the last few weeks it has stopped working. I've updated Zotero and Firefox and updated translators in Zotero. Thank you!

When I hover over the Zotero icon it recognizes the URL as PEP Web. In the past I was able to import citations from PEP Web (through the proxy, it wasn't a problem in the past). Some time in the last few weeks (I can't date this exactly, I know I used it within the last year successfully and a student at my library has reported it not working in the last few weeks) it has stopped working and I get a "known translator issue" error message. I've searched the zotero site for any information on this and I can only find an entry from June of 09 from someone who posted a translator to the dev group, which predates my successful use of zotero with PEP Web. I can't find any information more up-to-date. PEP Web has made some changes recently, adding journals and they may have made more significant back-end changes that could be causing this?
  • Fixed. The translator was extremely fragile-- I'm surprised it worked this long. But it's working again now.

Please go to https://www.zotero.org/trac/export/8239/extension/trunk/translators/PEP Web.js and save the file to the translators directory of your Zotero data directory (http://www.zotero.org/support/zotero_data).
  • Thank you so much for the very quick response!
  • Hi,
This translator seems not to be working. are there any plans to update?
  • works for me. Sample URL?
  • Hi! I'm also finding that, using the most current version of Firefox and hovering my cursor over the Zotero file icon in the URL bar, it recognizes the translator as (PEP Web), but it will not save the item.

    Here is the URL:
    http://proxy.wi.edu:2052/document.php?id=se.014.0237a&type=hitlist&num=0&query=zone1%2Cparagraphs|zone2%2Cparagraphs|author%2Cfreud|title%2Cmourning+and+melancholia|viewperiod%2Cweek|sort%2Cyear%2Ca#hit1

    Thanks for any help!
  • Also, the translator link posted above by ajlyon seems to be dead or for developers only, fyi. Thanks!
  • A translator fix is now up. Your version of Zotero will automatically update within 24hs, or you can update manually using the "Update Now" button in the "General" tab of the Zotero preferences. If you're using Standalone, restart Zotero and your browser after updating.

Any further problems let us know & thanks for reporting

Note this is a very basic translator that relies on parsing data from formatted strings, it's not going to be very good.
  • Thanks adamsmith!

However, it looks like now there is no Zotero icon in the URL - previously it was a document icon when clicked on opened a box that said "item could not be saved. See translator troubleshooting, etc."

I am signing in to PEP Web via my school website, not directly through the PEP web site. Maybe this is creating problems, too? I've noticed, too, that when presented with search results in PEP Web, the usual list of results are enumerated and presented with checkboxes. With other sites, like ProQuest for example, I know Zotero can parse this result list for me to choose which data/citations to capture. I notice that this is also not happening (i.e. there is no Zotero icon in the URL), again using Firefox with Zotero plug-in. This is in addition to the actual document page also not being able to be parsed (i.e. no Zotero icon in URL).

If it's helpful, here is the URL to the results list page as produced while I am signed into PEP Web via proxy of my school's website:

    http://proxy.wi.edu:2052/search.php?author=&title=mourning+and+melancholia&datetype=&startyear=&endyear=&journal=&language=&type=&citecount=&viewcount=&viewperiod=week&sort=year%2Ca&fulltext1=&zone1=paragraphs&fulltext2=&zone2=paragraphs

And here is the intended and searched for document page URL:

    http://proxy.wi.edu:2052/document.php?id=se.014.0237a&type=hitlist&num=0&query=zone1%2Cparagraphs|zone2%2Cparagraphs|title%2Cmourning+and+melancholia|viewperiod%2Cweek|sort%2Cyear%2Ca#hit1

    Thanks, much, again!
  • Ok! The Zotero file icon is appearing in the URL now when I land on a specific document. Thanks so much!!
  • Yeah, search results never worked for this. Wouldn't be terribly hard, but someone has to do it.
