Turn off "save to zotero"

I have been unable to find a way to remove the "save to zotero" option that is now associated with every download I perform in Firefox. I'm using Zotero because I need to collaborate on a reference list, but I will never be saving files in that manner. Not to mention the overwhelming majority of downloads have nothing to do with references. That option is just a distraction that interrupts my normal workflow with that dialog box. If there is not an easy way to make it go away (which I certainly can't find), please provide one. (Actually, I would just use the standalone version to get around this problem, but that has other bugs that prevent me from using it (the preferences window is empty so nothing can be configured), so I'm stuck with the firefox add-on version.)
  • In what way does that option interrupt your normal workflow? It seems to me (speaking as another user) that to choose between two options and to choose among three has a similar feel. (I could be missing something though.)
  • (if you do want to troubleshoot standalone--and the preference window certainly loads fine for almost all users--please start a new thread on that that includes an error report ID
https://www.zotero.org/support/reporting_problems#provide_a_report_id and a link to a screenshot uploaded to a free image hosting site or dropbox)
  • fbennett - the issue is that I now have to be more careful about selecting an option. The zotero save options take up a good chunk of screen space, and place a commonly used option (save, but not to zotero) in the middle rather than as the final option. Is it a massive problem? No. Is it annoying? Yes. I already have at least 4 other ways to get data into Zotero (manually, context menu, keyboard shortcut, icon), should I ever want to, and this is the only one that causes me any issue. I don't think that Zotero should take over the browser.
  • sorry, I doubt that's going to happen. Creating preferences for everything makes things impossible to navigate for users and you're literally the first person to ever complain about the presence of this option, so it's not like this is something a lot of people would use.
  • While kdaclab is the first person to request this, I'm not opposed to a hidden pref to turn it off (though I imagine we'd then get some reports about it being missing). I think we can do this by adding a few lines to downloadOverlay.js::init() to check the pref and hide the overlaid elements.
