how toreturn my library from back up to my laptop

I had to have the operating system reloaded on my laptop. They did a backup on my library and saved it to my external hard drive but I don't know how to reload my library back onto my laptop. Any assist would be appreciated.

I have reviewed these but it references going to the Zotero "pane" and clicking on sync to enter my account data but I don't have a "pane" that pops up and can't seem to find it. I have tried the auto sync numerous time with no luck

The "pane" just means the Zotero interface, but you're looking at the wrong instructions. If you have an actual backup of your data directory, you don't want to use sync:
