Can My Library be public?

Is there a way to make My Library public, rather than having to share library items through Groups? I only have meta data, no attachments.

If not, is there a way to link items between Group Libraries and My Library? My main problem with the group system is that if I change an item in My Library (e.g. add a note), the change does not automatically get copied to the Group Library.

Thank you,

Irene
  • Sure. You can find that setting under "Settings" -> "Privacy" when you log in to zotero.org.
  • (though other people can't sync with it - that's the main difference to groups).
  • Thanks, fbennett (done) and adamsmith (yes, major downside, agreed).

New question: is there a way to copy edited items from My Library to Group Library without having to delete old version from Group Library? Here is what happens to me. I copy an item to a Group Library. Later, I edit the original item in My Library (add notes, mainly). When I copy the updated item to the Group Library, it doesn't seem to take. I have to move the item in the Group Library to Trash then delete it from Trash, then copy updated item to Group Library. This seems way too complicated. There must be a better way. Items in My Library are not static; I edit many of them later, when I've had time to work with them and add new notes and tags.

    Thanks.
  • Unfortunately not - this is very much planned, but currently
move the item in the Group Library to Trash then delete it from Trash, then copy updated item to Group Library.
is the only way to go.
  • okay, I await the day when this feature comes on board. thanks for getting back to me so quickly with these answers!
