web of science firefox plugin adds wrong citations

Using web of science via our institution's proxy the plugin brings up the correct citation and but when one hits ok it adds 3 other citations that are not even on that page. What it tries to add is consistent. You can go to a totally different computer and do that search to bring up the title
and it will always find the same 3 other citations. To show search for:
title: cataplexy
author: mignot
title: paralysis
This should bring up one title:
"Depression as a correlate of sleep hallucinations, sleep paralysis, cataplexy-like episodes, and automatic behavior in the Wisconsin sleep cohort study"
but when I try to add it with zotero I get 3 citations totally different.
  • Sorry for the very late response, but can you replicate this after updating your translators (http://www.zotero.org/support/troubleshooting_translator_issues step 5)? If you can, run through the other applicable steps on that page. For step 12, we would need a Debug ID instead of a Report ID.
  • I encountered this behaviour today and thought it was to do with an outdated translator for the new-ish WoS interface. However, after logging in to web of science directly rather than through the institutional route (i.e. home PC > library page link to WoS > WoS) behaviour was normal.
  • What browser are you using?
  • I am using Firefox 26.0.
  • Can you see if step 7 here applies to you? And if your settings were not as indicated, can you check if changing them fixes the proxy issue?
  • I had checked that - mine is set to firefox will remember history. There is no accept cookies from sites radio button but I have the tracking option set to 'do not tell sites about my tracking preferences'
  • Could you provide a Debug ID for an item that saves incorrectly via proxy?
  • I guess so - the other potential cause might be I have noScript installed - scripts from zotero.org are set to 'allowed' so zotero shoudl work OK.

    I'll replicate the issue anyway...
  • You should disable all other extensions while testing. It's likely that noScript could be interfering.
  • OK - I already just did a debug report. The behaviour this time didnt; seem quite the same. Earlier a whole load of entries were registered - this time nothing seems to have saved. I'll turn off noSCript and try it again. Should I restart FF do you think? I've not closed this session since I saw the original behaviour.
  • same deal with noSCript turned off.

I will do a FF restart with all addons disabled.
  • Yes, if a restart clears it, it's unlikely that we would be able to fix this bug.
  • still not working after a restart - though I chose to restore previous session - I guess that is just like not re-starting...

I'll try again tomorrow - ... thanks for your help aurimas.
  • I'll see if I can reproduce this from home via proxy
  • I have tried this from my campus PC. If I log in to WoS via the link on my library home page this directs me via an openathens proxy and zotero does not return citation info. the URL on the page of results I am retrieving looks like this;
    http://apps.webofknowledge.com.openathensproxy.aston.ac.uk/Search.do?product=UA&SID=N1HWorcKpdf6kVeAf2H&search_mode=GeneralSearch&prID=a78d47d7-f62c-4d0d-8f71-11b3c84f0f12

at the same time I can be logged into WoS on another browser tab with the same login details via openathens but not referred from the library link and zotero works fine. the URL for that looks like this
    http://apps.webofknowledge.com/Search.do?product=UA&SID=U1ALJntDVsoalNuPIaD&search_mode=GeneralSearch&prID=857bca02-416b-4c9d-abf4-3e8b82f19d42

Changing the proxy server in the firefox options to 'no proxy' has no effect on this.
  • I cannot reproduce this over my library proxy. If you can provide a Debug ID for a failed attempt to save the item, we might be able to figure this out.
  • I have just replicated the issue:

    The Debug ID is D1060881050.

  • @Dan, I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that this is at fault:
I have some general fixes for proxies in translators that I'll try to put up as a pull request some time today or tomorrow. It should fix the issue above. Not sure if that would fix the failed import though.

@lakelander, this time, nothing saved, right? You're no longer seeing issues where an incorrect entry is saved, correct?
  • @dan - that's right. Originally I'd see the choice box, select an entry then several unrelated citations would appear in teh downloading citations panel, but these didn't arrive in teh zotero collection. Now (if I recall accurately) I can select a single citation OK and the download panel shows just one citation downlaoding, but nothing appears in the selected collection, or is found anywhere in a general search.

Just as an aside, which may not be relevant, with the old web of science interface I had to limit searches to the WoS database, rather than the default 'all databases' search option for zotero to work OK. I did try limiting the database search to WoS but this didn't change anything.
