Word Add-on for Mac Office 2011 almost hidden - unusable

I have an issue where my Zotero Word Add-on for Mac Office 2011 (v 14.3.9) is almost hidden. I use Zotero Standalone (v 4.0.16). I had tried uninstalling and re-installing the add-on multiple times and I still have the same issue.

If you look at this screenshot: http://imgur.com/CTdwscG, you can see a sliver of the Zotero Add-on underneath the system menu bar. I am unable to resize or move the Zotero Add-on. It's almost impossible to use and quite frustrating. Does anyone know of a solution or a workaround, that doesn't involve using the Firefox extension?

Thanks in advance!
  • This just looks like the menu bar is detached and moved to the top of the screen - I'm not sure why you wouldn't be able to move that - you could try toggling it under View, see if that changes anything.

As a workaround, you should also have the Zotero add-in commands (including keyboard shortcuts) in the apple script menu:
    http://www.zotero.org/support/kb/no_toolbar_in_word_2008_plugin
(In Word 2008, that's the only place, in Word 2011 you have both the menu and the toolbar).
  • The script menu works - thanks for that tip!

I tried toggling the menu under View and that didn't do anything. I also noticed under "customize toolbars" that there is *no* option to dock the Zotero menu (see screenshot: http://imgur.com/WHjPV2A).

I'll use the scripting menu from here on out as a work-around, but do you know if this is a Zotero issue or a Word issue?
  • I know this works correctly for many people, so it's hard to say. It would look more like a Word issue to me, but I'm not sure. Simon might be able to say.
  • Alrighty - thanks for the quick response. I appreciate it!
  • This a Word issue; I think it can be caused by closing another toolbar and then restarting Word, or maybe by plugging in an external monitor and moving toolbars around.

You might be able to move the toolbar back where it belongs by dragging by the little sliver on the left (between the edge of the toolbar and the thin gray line). Otherwise, you can try deleting the Office preferences (only step 3 here). This will erase any customizations.
