Standalone not accessible from firefox connector
Hi, I've recently started using Zotero and have installed the standalone plus the Firefox connector. Problem is, when I have the standalone and Firefox open together and I click on the Zotero extension icon in Firefox, I get a message "Zotero Standalone was launched but is not accessible. If you experienced an error opening Zotero Standalone, restart Firefox".
Occasionally it appears to work as presumably intended, and clicking that icon takes me to the standalone version window, but I don't know what makes that happen - I've tried opening and closing the browser and the standalone in various orders, but no joy. Opening Firefox alone allows me to open the extension and the library (same library for both versions, in the default location for the standalone version), but if the standalone version is open, it appears to lock out the browser extension. Using XP and Firefox 25.0.1, Zotero version is the latest.

what I do to work well is open firefox and then immediately open zotero.
Is not possible to do what you ask, because when i try to open zotero and the error occurs i turn off firefox, then open Zotero and when i try to see debugging logs, the debugging system is off and there are no logs.
when the error occurs when i try to opening zotero, he does not save the report of errors, that's why there is nothing to send
If it's the latter, when following Simon's directions, after step 5, when you go into Preferences -> Advanced -> General, does the button under "Debug Output Logging" say "Enable" or "Disable"?
The debugging button say disable.
So please start at the beginning and tell us exactly what is happening.
Note that the original poster can still switch between Zotero for Firefox and Standalone with alt tab. There is no need to restart Firefox or anything of the type.
I'm using Zotero desktop and firefox with plugin, what's happen sometimes is: when i'm using firefox and try to open zotero with browser or windows desktop, an error occurs, and is not possible open application without restarting browser.
The error says, "Data Base of Zotero is in use and is needed restart firefox."
Normally this situation occurs when i use firefox for a long time and then i try to open zotero.
Firefox 25.0.1
Zotero Standalone 4.0.16
Zotero for firefox 4.0.16
I have the same problem in my Zotero. I installed it in Mozilla 25.0.1, some months ago.
It was working very well.
Today it doesn't want to get opened and there is a window that says "Zotero Standalone was launched but is not accessible. If you experienced an error opening Zotero Standalone, restart Firefox".
The thing is that i have never downloaded Zotero Standalone! I had only Zotero 4.0.16 for firefox.
There is no way of opening it. I have a big big problem.
I was reading the Debug command on the link you attached and I saw that for providing Debug ID I need to open Zotero preferences. But I dont find the way of opening this. It seems that all Zotero is locked.
I tried three ways of opening zotero settings:
-the toolbar on the bottom of firefox screen
-tools --> zotero
-tools --> add-ons --> Zotero 4.0.16 (options)
No one of these three ways works
It's a spanish version of zotero and windows (8), so I try to make the translations the best I can.
I really than you very much your courtesy for paying attention to this problem
