Style Request: First three authors only for American Chemical Society

I'm using the American Chemical Society (from http://www.zotero.org/styles/american-chemical-society) for a paper in the Journal of Laboratory Automation and Screening (ISSN: 2211-0682).
- The ACS style lists every author in each bibliography entry.

According to author instructions
http://www.slas.org/publications/journal/author_instructions.cfm
the journal requests that citations and references comply exactly with ACS guidelines: Only the first three authors should be cited followed by "et al." How do I limit the bibliography to only the first three authors?

For example:
1. Campbell, R.M.; Hallock N.; Ho D.; et al. Instructions for JBS Authors. J. Biomol. Screen. 2012, 17, 150-155.
  • I won't get to this for a while, but you can just change the et al settings to et-al-min="4" et-al-use-first="3"
    See here for general instructions:
    http://www.zotero.org/support/dev/citation_styles/style_editing_step-by-step
  • Just FYI, that is actually not "comply[ing] exactly with ACS guidelines". The ACS Style Guide says:
Include all author names in a reference citation. With multiple authors, separate the names from one another by semicolons. Always end the author field with a period (exception: Biochemistry). List the names in inverted form: surname first, then first initial, middle initial, and qualifiers (Jr., II). Some publications list the first 10 authors followed by a semicolon and et al.; check the guidelines.
So this would require a new style.
  • @adamsmith
Thanks for your pointer. Just for posterity, those et al settings should be placed in <bibliography>, not in <citation>.
  • the SLAS styles are now up.
