Cannot see Zotero icon on Chrome (Mac)

I have a macbook and just downloaded zotero for chrome. I am not really good with technology in general and I am having a little issue with zotero since I cannot see the icon on chrome. What could I do? I thought about downloading the software again (this time, to firefox) but thought probably i should uninstall the current one i have in that case? Any advices will be appreciated.

Thanks.
  • don't re-install, no.
Make sure you have both Zotero Standalone _and_ the Chrome extension installed. If that's the case, see here:
    http://www.zotero.org/support/kb/no_address_bar_icon
  • Thank you so much for your reply. I already have installed both Zotero Standalone and the Chrome extension. Although I still do not see the icon. I'm not exactly sure what's going on?
  • See adamsmith's link, and the pages linked from there.
  • I have done almost everything what the troubleshooting web has said, except the one which talks about translators directory. I've never changed my translators directory, and did not save Zotero on dropbox or anything so thought it may be irrelevant for my case. Checked the chrome://extensions as well but no error has been reported. So that's why Im confused why I do not see the icon on Chrome. I dont see the icon even when I go to webpage including documents and articles.
  • You haven't provided the information requested in the last step.
  • Zotero Standalone and the Chrome extension installed. (I am using Chrome Version 29.0.1547.65)

    Zotera version 4.0.11

    Zotera connector ID: ekhagklcjbdpajgpjgmbionohlpdbjgc
    Zotera connector version: 4.0.8.2

    I am using OSX 10.8.4

I got an icon once since I last wrote my comment - I dont know how I got it thought. All the sudden, it popped up. I can now see the icon on New York Times article pages, but not in other ones, for example, http://www.law.yale.edu/documents/pdf/cglc/Hathaway_HumanRightsAbroad.pdf

    Thanks for your help.
  • as the page says, you will only see an icon in the URL bar for supported pages (which never includes PDFs). For webpages w/o an icon you can use right-click --> Save as Zotero Snapshot, for PDFs you an drag the favicon (the little icon on the left of the URL bar) to Zotero or save the PDF and then drag it to Zotero.
