Zotero for Word 2002/Word XP?

Which version of Zotero and the plugin for Word are the last ones that support Word 2002/XP? Where can I get them?
(I like an outliner for longer texts, http://writingoutliner.com/, and don`t want to update my word, because most of the time I use Openoffice.)

Thanks!

3.1.9 http://download.zotero.org/integration/Zotero-WinWord-Plugin-3.1.9.xpi was still marked as compatible with Word 2000+ and you could even try the current version.

IIRC Simon changed the compat not because this didn't work at all, but because there were all types of issues with Word 2000 (not sure about 2002) that he didn't want to deal with anymore. In other words, you're on your own if this doesn't work smoothly.

edit: though I believe the old plugins may not work on recent FF versions...
  • Might there be problems using the newest Zotero-plugin together with the old word-plugin? Are there rules how long compatibility between Zotero and its plugins should work?
It`s easy to get old versions of Firefox, thanks for the warning.
  • It's possible the latest Word plugin works with Word XP. It's also possible that the older Word plugins work with the latest version of Zotero. Both are not supported configurations not because we know that they don't work, but because we don't have the resources to test them or to fix bugs in them.

Generally, Zotero supports Firefox, word processor, and operating system versions as long as the manufacturer does. Microsoft generally supports software for 10 years after release.
  • There is no firm rule, no, so you'd have to try it out. The only thing that gets tested and is supported are the most recent combinations.
The problem with Firefox is, of course, that Zotero may not be compatible with older Firefox versions. Again, the only thing that gets tested is the most recent version as well as the ESR (and that's going up to 24 in two weeks).

So my advice would be to just try if the most recent plugin works with Word 2002. And if it doesn't, see if the current Zotero release works with the 3.1.9 plugin.
  • Is there a way to find out, which Zotero-Firefox-Addon belongs to which Word-Plugin? Currently Zotero 4.0.12 and Word for Windows Plugin 3.1.13 are offered. But how to find out in retrospect, which ones have been tested together?
I downloaded a nice Firefox Add-on called FEBE:
    https://addons.mozilla.org/de/firefox/addon/febe/
It allows to backup *.xpi from already installed Firefox addons, which makes testing a lot easier.
  • You can trace the history by looking at the changelogs:
    http://www.zotero.org/support/4.0_changelog
    http://www.zotero.org/support/3.0_changelog
    http://www.zotero.org/support/word_processor_plugin_changelog

All versions of both Zotero and the plugins are available for download and follow the same pattern, e.g. the 3.1.10 version of the Word plugin is
http://download.zotero.org/integration/Zotero-WinWord-Plugin-3.1.10.xpi the 3.0.14 Zotero for Firefox xpi is
    http://download.zotero.org/extension/zotero-3.0.14.xpi etc.
  • It seems that Firefox 17.0.8 ESR, Zotero 4.0.12, Word for Windows Plugin 3.1.13, Word 2002/XP and Writing Outliner 1.6.20.803 play together. But this is only after short testing. I stopped automatic updating for the Zotero-Addons within Firefox.
Do styles and their updates play together in the same way with all versions of Zotero 3 and 4?
Thanks again, this was already very helpful.
  • Styles are basically handled the same way since Zotero 3.0. The earliest anything will possibly change is Zotero 4.2, but I doubt it.
You will miss occasional bug fixes, though. If those are relevant to you, you can install fbennett's patch plugin, which will update the citation processor to the most recent version at any time:
