zotero+arxiv.org - no longer attaching pdfs

I am checking preprints on astro-ph daily, and used the xxx.lanl.gov mirror of arxiv.org until it stopped working on 2 July. So I switched to the main site but, much to my surprise, zotero does not attach pdfs since then. This holds for the mirror sites as well. Any advice?

Works for me. Please post a non-working link if you are still experiencing problems.
  • Since it does not work at all, any link will do, e.g.
Upon fetching the article, the small zotero window pops up with a red cross in front of the pdf. Interestingly, comments are now being saved as well (which was not the case before). This is with zotero 4.0.8 and firefox 17.0.6.
  • Works for me as well with that URL (with Firefox 21.0).

Can you provide a Debug ID for a save from that URL?
  • The Debug ID is D503215792.

That doesn't appear to be for a save attempt. I think that's just for the loading of the page?

Are you sure you have access to the PDF on that page if you just click on it?
  • Also, are you connecting via any sort of proxy server?
  • Yes, it opens nicely with the pdfjs viewer. No, there is no proxy in between.
  • this wouldn't be the first case in which PDF download doesn't work correctly on the 17.0.x ESR: https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/29388/errorid-1672191025-cant-import-pdf-file/
arXiv is open access, so access to the PDF shouldn't vary.

As another idea, Zotero downloads the pdf from
while the link on the page is to

they both work for me, though, so I don't think that' should be a problem.
  • The issue is not related to the change of the arxiv host but caused by the https-everywhere add-on. Disabling the add-on makes zotero pdf association work again. It would be nice to have both, though.
  • Then you'll need to blacklist it in HTTPS Everywhere. https://arxiv.org/pdf/1307.2209.pdf is a 404. There's nothing Zotero can do about that.

(There's an additional problem in that https://www.arxiv.org/pdf/1307.2209.pdf displays a certificate warning, since their SSL certificate is valid only for arxiv.org, not www.arxiv.org. I'm not sure why Zotero uses the 'www' URL, and that should probably be changed, but it's a 404 either way.)
