Lost library

The laptop I normally use for Zotero has gone, kaput, so I am using a different laptop. Zotero seems to have completely lost one of my libraries--it had quite a number of items in it and now it only has one. I have tried doing a restore from the server but nothing has come back. Other libraries seem to be complete.
  • Is the library accessible through the online library

If you can provide the name of the library, the Zotero team could check what has happened to it.

I know that this advice is late, but considering that you can get a terabyte USB harddrive for less than 100 euros, there is really no excuse to have automated, full backups of your computer.
  • thanks for the suggestion about the Zotero team.

About the backups--I thought that the whole point of something like Zotero was that you have a remote copy that lots of people can access? Have I got that wrong? Can you not rely on the stability of that remore copy?

no. You can easily overwrite your online version if you make a mistake. That should not be possible with a back-up, which should have some type of version control (i.e. you should be able to go back to the back-up at different points in time - an hour ago, yesterday, a week ago - as e.g. Mac's TimeMachine does).
