Style request-submitting APA 6.0 canadien français

Bonjour.
https://github.com/citation-style-language/styles/pull/477/files

stdin:47:6: error: attribute ^name with invalid value "typeimage"
stdin:48:6: error: attribute ^name with invalid value "publicationno"
stdin:49:6: error: attribute ^name with invalid value "cartographe"
stdin:64:6: error: attribute ^name with invalid value "retrieved on"
stdin:67:6: error: attribute ^name with invalid value "unpublished"
stdin:116:2: error: attribute ^term with invalid value "cartographe"
stdin:179:5: error: attribute ^term with invalid value "retrieved on"
stdin:223:4: error: attribute ^term with invalid value "publicationno"
stdin:238:3: error: attribute ^term with invalid value "typeimage"
stdin:648:8: error: attribute ^term with invalid value "unpublished"
error: invalid input

Merci.
  • you can't define custom terms in CSL, which is where are your validation errors come from. But see my note on your pull request for the more general issue of a separate French APA style.
  • Just to be sure that communication is right here, I am including a translation of my original edit :
    Hi.
We developped and independent and french translated style APA 6.0.
    https://github.com/citation-style-language/styles/pull/477/files

This style allows to do citations et biblioraphy accordingly to our APA 6.0 translation http://www.mondiapason.ca/fichiers/OutilBibliographique/

We validated the code in http://simonster.github.io/csl-validator.js/
and obtained errores messages du to terms (values) that seems inexistent in the CSL code. We installed localy and tested in Zotero this citation and bibliographic format and they worked juste fine.M

stdin:47:6: error: attribute ^name with invalid value "typeimage"
stdin:48:6: error: attribute ^name with invalid value "publicationno"
stdin:49:6: error: attribute ^name with invalid value "cartographe"
stdin:64:6: error: attribute ^name with invalid value "retrieved on"
stdin:67:6: error: attribute ^name with invalid value "unpublished"
stdin:116:2: error: attribute ^term with invalid value "cartographe"
stdin:179:5: error: attribute ^term with invalid value "retrieved on"
stdin:223:4: error: attribute ^term with invalid value "publicationno"
stdin:238:3: error: attribute ^term with invalid value "typeimage"
stdin:648:8: error: attribute ^term with invalid value "unpublished"
    error: invalid input

So we are submitting this pull request in order to create an Independant style which could be named American Psychological Association 6th Edition (French) just as the Turkish have theirs.

    Thank you.
    Philippe Lavigueur
  • yep, I got that. Same answer, though. No custom terms in CSL and see my comments directly on your pull request on adding a separate version. From what I gathered by quickly looking at your guide it is a translation of the APA manual, which can be done within the existing APA style, no need to create a separate style.
  • I maybe missing something here. Our aim is to provide and use an APA french translated version without having the rewrite the csl code each and every time APA 6.0 th version is updated. Using the original APA 6ht CSL is no use for french speaking student since it means rewriting the whole bibliography once its generated.

What are the issues of using a APA dependant style? Translating and adaptating this CLS has needed many hours of work. We just don't want to get back to square one.
    Thanks
  • If I'm correct, CSL styles without a "default-locale" attribute on the "style" element (like apa.csl) should automatically localize according to the locale set for Zotero. See http://www.zotero.org/support/supported_languages

If your copy of Zotero uses the French (or Canadian-French) locale, you should already see your citations and bibliographies appear in French with the original APA CSL style. If there are translation errors with that approach, we should first try to see if those can be fixed in the original APA style.

You could help us by answering two questions:
    - are you able to get French citation and bibliographies with the original APA style, and
    - if so, what's wrong with those?
  • We are able to get French citation and bibliographies with the original APA styles but thoses haves multiple non translated or mistranslated issues. I have created a .xls file listing with case studies illustrating these which I cannot post here.
  • post it to google docs, link from here
  • https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B8VnQ9E1ThBWclltTU90RTNyZmM/edit?usp=sharing
  • OK, so these are the main differences:

    Irritants pour Philippe :

    -dates inversées
    -Consulté à l'adresse plutôt que Repéré à
    -dir. plutôt qu'éd.
Can all be localized. We should check whether these should apply to all French translation or just the Canadian one, but either way this is easy to do in the style.
You can check e.g. the Vancouver style for examples of that.

    -Mention IN pas traduites
In fr-CA locales, in should appear as "dans" (or if it doesn't it's easy to fix). In France "in" (from the Latin) is indeed preferred.

All the others may very well apply to the English version as well and should be checked against the actual APA guide and presumably be fixed.
  • All the others may very well apply to the English version as well and should be checked against the actual APA guide and presumably be fixed.

There is no official french translation of APA 6.0 and nothing is suggested in the APA manual, 6ht ed.
But when doing our work we work closely with the actual APA guide.

In fr-CA locales, in should appear as "dans" (or if it doesn't it's easy to fix).

Appears in fr-ca locales as IN ans not dans.
    The dates are inverted

All of theses are not correctly appearing with the fr-CA locales : -Types de documents pas encadrés de crochets carrés
  • As well as these : Consulté à l'adresse plutôt que Repéré à
    -dir. plutôt qu'éd.
