Citations deleted due to the duplication of a citation

Hello,

I am writing a document with 245 references. I downloded a citation which I downloaded before, so it was duplicated. This citation was not cited in my document though. When I tried to insert the citation a message telling me that "you have modified this citation since Zotero generated it. Do you want to keep your modification and prevent future updates?" appeared. This happened several times and each time I selected No, I saw that the citations in the whole document changed and the number of citations are decreasing each time. What might be the problem? Thank you for your help.

Is there a way to prevent this? Because if I have a duplicate in the library this should not effect my document. This is very sad since I can not check 245 references each time I loose some data...

Thank you!
  • that error is likely unrelated to any duplicate item you downloaded and this is a coincidence. It would typically occur after you manually edited a citation in Word - things like moving a parenthesis or so - any chance you did that?
