I must be doing something wrong since I get no search results for
"Type" "is" "Book" or "Type" "is" "Web page" or
"Type" "contains" "Book"
searches on other categories like "Title" work fine.

adamsmithYou want to search for "Item Type" is "Book" not "Type" (the latter being the content of e.g. the field "Report Type").
