Trouble registering a new user

I'm posting on behalf of a student I'm assisting -- she's trying to register for Zotero, but when she submitted the form (and then when I tried to do the same on my computer), we received the following error messages:
[username]@[domain.com] is unavailable
&
"Invalid Credentials"

Any tips to help her set up an account?
  • After registering you can use either your username or email address to log in, but email addresses cannot be used as a username.

    If that is not what she's trying to do, is it possible she already created an account with that address?
