can't capture citation from university library

Hi there,

Until recently I was able to capture citations from my university library catalogue by simply clicking on the icon in the URL. Now though, when I click on the icon, I get the empty white box at the bottom right of the screen, and the citation doesn't appear in my library. Campus IT can't help, IT-guru husband can't help, and I can't bear the thought of manually entering all the citations I have accumulated since the problem began a couple of months ago (I think)...HELP PLEASE!

Thanks in advance of heroic assistance...

PS This seems similar to the problem discussed in the thread below (from 2007), but I couldn't find any sign that the problem there had been resolved.

  • Hi,

    Here's the info...

    Report ID: 775168767
    Browser: Firefox 15.0.1
Plugins: Zoterro 3.0.8 and Zoterro Word for Windows Integration 3.1.8
    URL: http://prospero.murdoch.edu.au/search~S1?/arank,+otto/arank+otto/1,1,7,B/frameset&FF=arank+otto+1884+1939&3,,7

It seems that all URLs in this library are not working. I've just noticed another thread which appears to be for the same issue, but other libraries that also use the InnoPac translator: http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/22526/problem-with-an-innopac-translator/#Item_16

    Thanks for your help.

  • I don't see how we can do that - if you can find out from your library if there is any way to get from an item display to a MARC display - following a link, changing the URL (e.g. in the translator we change frameset to marc in the URL to get to the MARC record) - we'll likely be able to make this work, but not otherwise.
  • I'm not sure what a MARC display is, but if I click on 'Show Permanent Record', to the right of the screen, I get taken to this version of the item:

    http://prospero.murdoch.edu.au/record=b1233240~S1

The problem then is slightly different - the Zotero icon in the URL shows up as a yellow folder (instead of a blue 'book'), and clicking on it yields an error message...which seems a bit more encouraging than an empty white box...

Thanks for continuing to look into this,
    Jo
  • I don't expect you to know what a MARC display is (though if you're interested: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MARC_standards ), but your librarians will.

As I say above, there is absolutely nothing I (or anyone else) can do about this problem without that information, so if you aren't able to find this out from your library we won't be able to get this to work.

(the different error you're seeing is a problem with the translator and how it deals with permanent links to records, so what you're getting with that page is actually worse).
