Search-related Requests

Advanced search and saved searches have the potential to be very powerful if these were possible:
1. Advanced search allowed for more complex combinations, perhaps via syntax, e.g. "(a AND b).title OR (c AND D).title NOT (e OR f).author"
2. Saved searches could be moved within subcollections

With these additions one could make a complex organizational heirarchy of Zotero items that would automatically file new items. For Example, one could create the following structure within their collections:

Collection: Shakespeare
-Subcollection: Hamlet
-Subcollection: Hamlet Criticism
-Saved Search: Hamlet & Postmodernism
-Saved Search: Hamlet & Renaissance
-Subcollection: Hamlet Performances
-Saved Search: All Performances
-Subcollection: Recent Performances
-Saved Search: American
-Saved Search: European
-Subcollection: Historic Performances
-Subcollection: Tempest
. . . etc. . .

What's really cool is that the Saved Searches would file all the items automatically without having to manually move each item into the hierarchy, and any new items would automatically be filed.
  • You can use more complex boolean logic by chaining saved searches together. Existing searches show up under the "Collection" condition in the advanced search window.

There's a ticket for allowing searches to exist under collections.
