Otixo Webdav problems

I'm new to Zotero

I'm trying to sync Zotero to Otixo through webdav (https://app.otixo.com/webdav). I enter all the info correctly, but get this error message:

Permission Denied
The WebDAV server did not accept the username and password you entered. Please check your file sync settings or contact your server administrator.

With the same username and password I am able mount the WebDav as a server in my Finder, so it seems something is wrong on the Zotero end. (Also couldn't connect to CloudMe webdav b/c of supposed username/pword problems).

I am running Firefox 10.0.2 on Lion OSX 10.7.3 with Zotero 3.0.3 Firefox and Standalone. (Though I'm somewhat confused about whether these are two different programs, or just two parts of the same thing. could this be my problem?)

Any idea what I am doing wrong?

Thanks!
  • Update:

I just signed up for 4Shared. 10GB free, WebDav. Great idea, right?

But I get the same error message from Zotero. Again, I can mount the WebDave in my finder, so I'm not using bad login info.

Has anybody else had this problem??
  • Zotero works with properly configured WebDAV servers, and I'm afraid we can't debug problems with individual servers. If you provide a Debug ID for a Verify Server attempt I might be able to provide a bit more information, but that's about it.
  • I understand you can't troubleshoot individual servers, and I appreciate your help.

Here is my debug ID for Otixo:
    D768752335

And here it is for 4shared:
    D1973948096

    Thanks!
  • Those reports are identical, and seem to only cover 4shared.
  • Sorry - here is the Otixo report, hopefully:

    D922811082
  • You're getting 401 Unauthorized from both of those. We don't have any reason to think there's a problem with Zotero's WebDAV functionality, so you're going to have to experiment more on your end. Otixo looks to be using Digest authentication, which Zotero doesn't support.
  • Otixo support tells me that it will work if I can get Zotero to access just the WebDav URL, without the /zotero directory. Is there any way to do this?
  • Success with 4shared.com!!!

I don't pretend to know why this worked, but the essential point is that I created the /zotero directory inside 4shared *before* I tried to verify the server.

    Instructions:
    0. Sign up for 4shared.com (15GB free, no monthly traffic limits!!) and install 4sync desktop client.
    1. Go to Zotero preferences, Advanced tab.
    2. Under Data Directory Login, click "Show Data Directory." This will reveal the /zotero directory in your Applications folder.
    3. Control-click on the "zotero" folder.
    4. This should bring up a menu of options, one of which is "Get 4shared link for this file". Select it.
    5. Now a "link" appearing as a folder icon named "zotero" should appear in your main 4shared.com area.
    6. Go back to Zotero preferences, Sync tab.
    7. Select "Sync attachments in My Library using" _WebDav_
    8. For the URL, make sure it is set on "https" (not http)
    9. Enter "webdav.4shared.com" in the URL box (w/o quotation marks)
    10. Enter username and password as you set them when you signed up for 4shared.com.
    11. Click Verify Server

    Hopefully you're good to go!
  • Hi,

From step 4 ahead I couldn't follow the mentioned by rjm95.

It seems strange to connect to 4Shared WebDav just using "webdav.4shared.com". For instance, I could establish connection with to other two WebDav services (first it is necessary to create a folder called "zotero" at the root of these services):

    CloudMe=> http://webdav.cloudme.com/[username]/xios

    Storegate=> https://webdav1.storegate.com/[username]/home/[username]

So, in the case of 4Shared, shouldn't the user name be part of the "webdav.4shared.com" address?

    Thanks!
  • To access your Dropbox via Otixo you will have to create a folder 'zotero' in your Dropbox, link your Dropbox to Otixo and then provide the following WebDAV server together with your Otixo credentials in your Zotero preferences:

    https://dav.otixo.com/Dropbox

    Regards,

    Robert
  • Been trying to connect to Otixo's webdav to store my Zotero archive. I just keep getting "URL is not a valid WebDAV address" every time I try to verify the server. I've tried both https://dav.otixo.com/Dropbox and https://app.otixo.com/webdav/Dropbox and I get the same error. Any suggestions? Does this just not work any more?

    Thanks!
  • Remember to create a folder called 'zotero' in the root of your Dropbox.
