Addition of "loc" as an alternative pagination reference

Increasingly scholars are needing to cite Kindle books, which don't have a page number, but rather a location number. Is it possible to include a "loc." among the versos and column options?
  • I think Zotero/csl would and should be reluctant to add support for one e-book standard in an evolving field.
I think it's deplorable that kindle doesn't supply a way to get a actual page numbers, so that 3 people, one reading on a nook, one reading on a kindle, one reading a paper copy, can not point to the same place in a book. There has got to be a better solution.
  • Perhaps the option to have nothing at all then. If one's using Harvard, it does put "p." or "para.". If there was a nul option among the abbreviations, one could put "loc. 555" or whatever one particularly wanted (depending on the ebook format), it would appear correctly on the citation.
  • I agree with the desirability of an empty locator (though there are certainly Harvard-type styles without the p.) - this has been discussed extensively in the past, but I have no recollection what the result of that discussion was no where it is - maybe one of the others involved can help out.

In the final post canarik states that the actual printed book page numbers are now available for Kindle ebooks.

The Amazon Kindle help site states that the page number from the printed book at your reading location may be identified by pressing the Kindle menu button. Unfortunately, in my experience, the page number is not available for all books and is not available for many of the books that I may want to cite.
