Allow more fields to be presented/sorted in "Middle Pane"

I need to do some extended data maintenance for my library, which would be greatly facilitated by presenting/sorting the middle pane database column(s) not in the default list (e.g., "URL," "Archive," "Loc. in Archive"). Is there a way for me to temporarily add column(s) to the middle pane of the database entry/edit window?

This has been discussed in the past. I don't know why more fields aren't available-- I certainly agree that it'd be good to add a few more to the list.

Please add place of publication field to the list. (Use case: researching when translations of a given book were published in different countries.)

+1 I would also find this very useful.

Is it difficult to make a little pop-up that lets you choose which fields you want to display and then ultimately sort by? This would be the ultimate solution.
