Will manual editing within a citation improve soon?

Our house style uses footnote citations. But frequently we need to insert text within a note as in

"1. For more on this see ... (Citation 1). For a more thorough discussion see ... (Ciration 2)"

It seems that inserting these things manually - on the page or in the Classic View editor - knackers the database link, so the citation will no longer update. Is there a way of doing this that leaves the database link intact? Or is one on the horizon?

Thanks

Caspar

  • There are already two ways of doing this:
    1. Insert the citations individually into the footnote, between regularly typed text or
    2. Use the prefix and suffix field of the individual cited items for this.

Both will keep the database link intact.
  • Thanks. For cross-references we refer to the note number where the source was first cited, so my guess is that option 1 wouldn't work (because Zotero would only be able to keep track of the note number if it created the notes itself) - or am I wrong?

Prefix and suffix seems like the best option.
  • I think option 1 should work for cross-references, but try it out
  • You're right! I had not idea that was how note references worked.
