Unable to link files with PMID upload

Specific articles don't have a DOI identifier and have the PMID number. When I add the PMID using the identifier tab, the file is uploaded, but they are not linked, which causes a problem when cited. How can I fix this issue? I'm using Mac with the latest version.
  • Sorry, I don't follow. Could you give us a step by step of your workflow and when this is a problem?
  • Ok. So some journals have only PMID, or PMIDC no. like the below one.
Example: Evidence that metformin exerts its anti-diabetic effects through inhibition of complex 1 of the mitochondrial respiratory chain
    M R Owen 1, E Doran, A P Halestrap
    Affiliations expand
    PMID: 10839993 PMCID: PMC1221104
    Free PMC article
    2. I copy the PMID number and past it in the identifier box of Zotero-
    3. The article shows up in the list of all articles but is unlinked
    4. When I cite an unlinked article on word, it doesn't appear in the correct citation format.
    How do I fix it?
  • First, no need to copy & paste the PMID: you can just use the "Save to Zotero" icon in your browser

    https://www.zotero.org/support/adding_items_to_zotero#via_your_web_browser

But then 3. -- I don't know what "unlinked" refers to? If you add an item by identifier, that's simply a Zotero item that you can cite like any other item? Do you just mean that there's not attached PDF?

And could you give an example for what you mean by not in the correct citation format?
  • Ok this is what I mean:
    1. When you click on a linked file, it opens up immediately in a separate window. This is when I use Zotero from the webpage and not the application. Unlinked files don't open up anywhere, and PDF is not attached.
    2. Citations are in the correct format now (after reinstallation), but the first problem is still there. I think I can fix it following the steps in the link provided.
    Thanks a lot for reverting.
  • I also fixed the first problem using the Zotero connector extension on chrome.
    Thanks!
