Import with DataCite DOI: wrong order of autor name (given, family)
Hello,
When importing metadata via a DataCite DOI into Zotero, it is often the case that given name and family name of the author appear in the wrong order in Zotero.
Examples:
10.3929/ethz-b-000538001
10.5075/epfl-thesis-7969
10.21256/zhaw-19497
We have contacted DataCite with this issue and were given the following answer:
“The problem seems to be the way Zotero interprets the metadata if the familyName and givenName attributes are missing. Zotero appears to take the raw string, which is in the format "familyName, givenName" and passes it through their cleanAuthor and this causes the creator metadata to appear incorrectly.
Basically the solution is to 1.) contact Zotero with these examples and 2.) always include the givenName and familyName attributes.”
I am not sure of others are aware of this.
Any experience with this issue or thoughts/ideas are appreciated.
Thank you!
Best,
Samantha
