zotero won't start

Error report = 482025740
I have been keeping my Zotero library on an external hard drive that I take to work and use at home. This way I can keep all the pdf's in the library without having two copies of them, or needing to set up some server for myself.
Yesterday I discovered the group world of zotero and set up a new group (NHC). I sinked it with the zotero web site at work without any problems, but today when I got home and plugged my hard drive in and then started zotero, zotero failed to start and it generated an error report (482025740). So now I seem unable to get zotero to start at home...... Not really sure how to get it back, and if the group setting now means I can't just keep my library on an external harddrive and move it around to what ever computer I was using. Any help would be greatly appreciated. -Windows 7, Firefox 3.5.5, zotero: up to date (less than a week old as computer is new)
Cheers,
Andre
  • [ERROR: attempt to write a readonly database]
Zotero can't write to the drive. Can't tell you much beyond that, though.

Restart your computer and try again. If it's still not working, and there's a zotero.sqlite-journal file in the Zotero data directory with Firefox closed, you can try deleting it.
  • I just managed to open a backed up version of the library and tried syncing. Interestingly it added the group to my library, although the back up version didn't have that included. Also, the sync said my library had exceeded my storage space, which might be part of the problem. I turned off the two transfer files options and then the sync worked fine. Maybe the error has to do with the file storage???
  • Dan, thanks, It is a stupid Windows thing, my work computer is a XP, this is a windows 7 and it keeps changing the permissions on the drive every time I stick it in the other computer, I work with windows to sort this one out.
