Zotero sorting files like Mendeley Desktop

Now that Mendeley Desktop has been discontinued, any chance that Zotero would be willing to add the incredible Mendeley Desktop feature that allows us to sort attached files (e.g., PDFs) in a folder based on user-defined characteristics (e.g., year)? I know ZotFile add-on can do this for Zotero, but I suspect most people (myself included) would prefer to not install a third-party add-on for just this one functionality, even if that add-on is open source.
