Can't add bibliography

I'm on a MacBook Pro OS 11.6.7 using Zotero 6.0.10. I've been working on a book manuscript with the chapters as separate word documents. Inserting citations and bibliographies has prefiously worked fine. But in the past couple of days I turned off 'auto update' in prefs because citations were taking loooong to insert (like, more than 2 minutes). Now when I click 'Refresh' it just takes me to the Zotero window but doesn't refresh the citations. Clicking on 'Add/edit bibliography' does the same thing. This happens with all documents. I've rebooted the machine, and restarted Zotero and Word, same deal. I'm trying to copy all the documents into one document and insert the reference list at the end of that.

    How long have you waited? Mac Word is unfortunately quite slow, so if it's a large document with a lot of citations, it could easily take a while.

    You can go to Help → Debug Output Logging → View Output to see if anything is happening.
