Change the way that citations appear in text

Hi,

I downloaded a document from google docs which contains citations from zotero. However, the citations still show up as indexed numbers [1], while new citations show ap as full name and date citations (Doe J. et al. 2022).

Is there any way to change the reference format so that they all show up the second way?

I did not find this option under change citation format...

Thanks!

  • This sounds like you didn't transfer the document from Google docs properly and the original citations aren't linked to Zotero anymore.
    See https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/moving_documents_between_word_processors
  • Hi and thank you for your answer! Unfortunately zotero crashes if I do that...
  • Crashes meaning what exactly? It shuts down or it freezes or something else? Any error message in the process?
  • It just gives a popup asking me to go through the troubleshooting process.

I did that and the feature works now. However, when I put the new document into word and refresh as per the instructions you sent me, the document looks exactly the same as it did on docs.
  • How does the transfer document look? It should have "Zotero Transfer Document" in bold letters at the top -- is that the case? Otherwise the conversion isn't working at that step and we'd have to troubleshoot that.
