Solved: How to get rid of "permanent" highlighting in PDF view

I'm pretty sure this shouldn't happen.

I have highlighted text that does *not* show up as an annotation in the annotation pane. (so no 3 dots to click to delete).

Also, clicking on the highlighting does *not* put a dotted line around it so pressing delete does not delete it.

All other annotations work as advertised. I cannot replicate this (I have no idea what I did in the first place).
